Cedric Richmond is an American lawyer, politician and the U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since 2011. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Richmond served as Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2017 to 2019. Previously from 2000 to 2013, he was State Representative from New Orleans to the Louisiana State House. Recently, Joe Biden announced his name for the first national co-chairman of the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign in 2019. Later he was named a co-chair of Biden’s presidential transition in September 2020. Richmond officially was announced by President-elect Joe Biden on November 17, 2020, to serve as Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the Office of Public Liaison.

Cedric Richmond Early Life and Education
Cedric Richmond was born on September 13, 1973, in New Orleans. He was raised in New Orleans East, by his mother, public school teacher and small business owner. Richmond lost his father when he was 7 years old. Cedric completed his high school from Benjamin Franklin High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Art from More house College and attended Tulane School of Law for J.D. He also went to Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government to complete an executive program. During the university days, Cedric was interested in playing baseball. He played as a pitcher for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

From 2000 to 2011, Cedric Richmond was elected as the Louisiana State Representative. The Louisiana state includes 101 districts. He was elected as the youngest legislator to take the office. While being as the legislature, he worked as Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary and a member of the Ways and Means, House Executive, and Legislative Audit Advisory committees.

For the first time in 2010, Cedric Richmond was elected as the US House of Representatives from Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district. He started his tenure in 2011. In 2008 Richmond was ranked at the third place in Democratic primary election for the nomination of Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district. Finally, in 2012, he won the primary election and also won the general election with 65% of the vote. In 2012, he was re-elected for the post. Cedric won the election by 55.2% votes. He was again elected in 2104 as well as 2018. Cedric was again re-elected in 2020 with 62.3% of the vote. Cedric was re-elected consecutively five times for the same position. He has been actively serving in the Congressional Black Caucus.
Joe Biden announced Cedric Richmond for the first national co-chairman of the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign in 2019. In September 2020, he was named a co-chair of Biden’s presidential transition. Recently on November 17, 2020, he was elected for Biden administration as Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison. He confirmed that he would leave Congress in January 2021.
