Danniella Westbrook, who starred in EastEnders, has confirmed that she was once so broke that she pleaded for a job at Aldi, but was turned down because she was too popular. After being fired twice from the show due to drug addiction, the actress, best known as Walford’s Sam Mitchell, struggled to find work.
She said, You go home and cry when you’re in a low place, but the whole country knows who you are, and you can’t just go to Asda and get a job.
When I was out of work, I went to Aldi and was told, “We can’t offer you a job because you’ll be a liability, and people will be coming in taking pictures of you.” However, they informed me that they would be unable to provide me a normal job. “I couldn’t find the job as I tried everywhere to find jobs, but it’s tough to work on something else when you work for a soap, so you’re not going to get into Downton Abbey unless you’re fortunate.”
