Ronald Dion DeSantis, most commonly known as Ron DeSantis is an American politician serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. He was the  U.S. Representative for Florida’s 6th district from 2013 to 2018. He is a Republican. Besides political career, he is an attorney, naval officer, and author. He rose to fame after his frequent attacks on Special Counsel Robert Muller’s investigation.

When he was six years old his family moved to Orlando, Florida before relocating to Dunedin.  He was a member of the Little League team from Dunedin National in 1991. Ron DeSantis graduated from Dunedin High School in Dunedin, Florida in the year 1997. After graduating from high school, he joined Yale University. He graduated with a B.A. in history in 2001 from Yale University. He was captain of the varsity baseball team while at Yale. He also served as a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Ron DeSantis joined Darlington School in the Upper School history department after Yale. Then, he joined Harvard Law School. He received J.D. in 2005.

Ron DeSantis Career

While studying at Harvard Law School, DeSantis received a Reserve Naval officer’s commission along with an assignment to Judge Advocate General’s corps in 2004 at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Dallas, Texas. In 2005, he completed U.S. Naval Justice School. Later, he was given orders at Naval Station Mayport, Florida as a JAG prosecutor. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2006. He served as the commander of the Joint Task Force – Guantanamo. Ron DeSantis was transferred to the Naval Special Warfare Command Group in Coronado, California in 2007. There, he was assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq. He returned to the U.S.A in April 2008. He was appointed as a federal prosecutor by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ron DeSantis announced he would run in the 6th District Republican primary election, in 2012. He won the Republican primary election with 39% of the vote among six candidates. In the general election, DeSantis defeated Heather Beaven, Democratic candidate by 57-43% majorities in four countries.

 Ron DeSantis announced he was running in the election of the United States Senate seat which was held by Marco Rubio who initially did not file to run for re-election due to his bid for the presidency, on May 6, 2015. DeSantis withdrew once Rubio entered the Senate race after ending his presidential bid.

Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy for governor of Florida in January 2018. In December 2017, President Donald Trump stated he would support DeSantis for governor. On August 28, 2018, DeSantis won the primary election of Republicans. DeSantis resigned from his seat in the House of Representatives on September 10, 2018, to focus on a gubernatorial campaign. On November 20, 2018, Ron DeSantis was officially announced as the winner, following a machine recount, defeating Democratic nominee and Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum. DeSantis is the youngest governor in the United States serving at the age of forty.
