Jennifer Mulhern Granholm commonly called Jennifer Granholm was the 47th Governor of Michigan from 2003 to 2011. She is a Candian born American politician who also is a lawyer, educator, author, and political commentator and CNN political contributor in 2017. From 1999 to 2003, Jennifer served as an Attorney General of Michigan from the Democratic Party. She is famously known as the first woman in history to be elected to the post of Michigan Governor.

Jennifer Granholm Early life and Education
Jennifer Granholm was born on February 5, 1959. She was raised by mother, Shirley Alfreda, and father, Victor Ivar Granholm in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Jennifer comes from the background of swedes and Finnish. Her family moved to California in her young age and ended up growing in Anaheim, San Jose, and San Carlos. Jennifer did her high school from San Carlos High School in 1977. She then pursued a B.A. degree in Political Science and French from the University of California, Berkeley and graduated in 1984. She was the first person in her family to attend university. Later in 1987, he earned a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard University. After she graduated from high school, she won the Miss San Carlos beauty pageant. Later Jennifer tried to make it in Hollywood but failed. Finally, she didn’t try further after the age of 21.

After Jennifer Granholm failed in Hollywood, she tried jobs as the tour guide and was the first woman in Marine World Africa USA in Redwood City to do so. She became the permanent citizen of the U.S. in 1980. After her graduation, she worked as a clerk for renowned judges from 1987 to 1988. In 1980, Granholm worked for the John B. Anderson campaign for President of the United States. In 1988, Michael Dukakis campaigned for President. Jennifer also worked as an Assistant Attorney and an attorney. She holds the record of the youngest person to serve as Corporation Counsel for Wayne County.

In 1988, Granholm ran for the position of governor of Michigan. In the primer election, she was unopposed in Democratic Party. For the general election, she faced Republican John Smietanka, former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. She won the election with 52.09% votes against Smietanka. Her first tenure started as Governor in 2002. She served as the first female Attorney General of Michigan from 1999 to 2003. In the 2002 election, Jennifer opponents were former U.S. Ambassador to Canada and former Governor James Blanchard and U.S. Representative and former House Minority Whip David E. Bonior. Despite being a fresh face she was favoured in the election. She got high votes against all her components. Her first tenure started from 2003 to 200. In the 2006 election, she faced Republican businessman and politician Dick DeVos. She won the election with 54 per cent of the vote. Her second tenure started from 2007 to 2011. Granholm was the first female Governor of the state.

Jennifer Granholm met her husband Daniel Mulhern while studying law at Harvard University. Daniel is a native of Michigan and studied theology from Yale University. They tied their knot in 1986 and each other’s surname as their middle name. Together they have three children. Their names are Kathryn, Cecelia and Jack. She is also a ted speaker. Jennifer gave her speech on the purpose of clean energy.
