Eric graduated from Pike High school which is located in Indianapolis. He then joined the Fraternity Phi Gamma Delta in Hanover college and served as chapter president. In 1990, Eric graduated from Hanover College with a BA in History of the United States with an emphasis on the American Civil War and the reconstruction period. On 5th October 2018,  Eric received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Trine University. Also, on May 11, 2019, Eric received an honorary doctorate in law from Anderson University. Eric Holcomb: Career

In 1997, Eric started working for John Hostettler, a member of the House of Representatives of the United States. For Indiana House of Representatives, Eric was defeated against John Frenz in 2000.  He also served from 2003 to 2011 as an adviser to Mitch Daniels, Indiana Governor. 

Holcomb was appointed as the Lieutenant governor of the state by Governor Mike Pence from 2016-2017. On 8th November 2016, Eric was elected governor of Indiana. He was sworn into office on 9th January 2017. In April 2017, the proposal of Holcomb for higher BMV fuel taxes and BMV registration fees to fund spending on infrastructure, especially on road maintenance and construction was approved by the Indiana legislature. The law went into effect on 1st July 2017. The legislation is expected to collect $1.2 billion a year on average by 2024.

Holcomb has gained a reputation for being a builder of consensus. He has visited Indiana’s 92 counties extensively. He is the author of the novel, ‘Leading the Revolution’, which summarized the achievements of the campaigning and leading strategy of Mitch Daniels. He is also a member of the board of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. He was also the campaign manager of Mitch Daniels for Governor from 2007-2008. He is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business Indiana Farm Bureau, the WWII Round Table of Indianapolis, and the American Legion Post 777.
