Lael Brainard is an American business analyst and an associate in the U.S. Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors. She handles Administrative Governor and Chair of the Committees on Financial Stability, Federal Reserve Bank Affairs, Consumer and Community Affairs, and Payments, Clearing and Settlements. Previously from 2009 to 2013, she worked as the United States Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs and as Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury. From 2001 to 2009, she was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and Vice President and Director of the Global Economy and Development Program from 2006. Before that from 1998 to 200, she worked as a National Economic Adviser and Deputy Assistant to the President. With that, she was also a faculty member of the MIT Sloan School of Management and worked at McKinsey & Company.

Lael Brainard Early Life and Education
Lael Brainard was born on January 1, 1962. She was raised by her parents in Hamburg, West Germany. Her father, Alfred Brainard was a U.S. foreign-service officer and diplomat. She grew up initially in West Germany but later moved to Poland before the Revolutions of 1989 and the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
She received her bachelor’s degree of arts from the College of Social Studies with university honours from Wesleyan University. Later he completed her Master’s program and doctoral degree in economics from Harvard University. In Harvard, she was a National Science Foundation Fellow.

In the earliest phase of the career, Leal Brainard worked in companies like McKinsey & Company. She worked as advising corporate clients on the strategic challenge. Later she moved to microenterprise in West Africa. After that from 1990 to 1996, she worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Later became a senior fellow at Brookings Institution from 2001 to 2009. From 2006 to 2009 she was a Director of the Global Economy and Development Program.
