 Lisa Monaco is a federal prosecutor in America. She also served as the statutory member of the United States Homeland Security Council. Lisa worked as the Homeland Security Adviser to President Barack Obama, the chief counter-terrorism adviser to the president. Previously from 2011 to 2013, she served as Assistant Attorney General for National Security and as the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department. Lisa also worked for CNN as the senior national security analyst in 2017.

Lisa Monaco Early Life and Education

 Lisa Monaco was born on February 25, 1968, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was raised in Newton, Massachusetts by father Anthony and mother Mary Lou Monaco. Her family has an Italian American background. Lisa attended The Winsor School in 1986. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Arts from Harvard University in American History and Literature, in 1990. From 1990 to 1991 after her graduation, she worked as a research associate for The Wilson Quarterly at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Lisa also worked as a senior associate for the Health Care Advisory Board, a healthcare advisory group. She studied law from the University of Chicago Law School and started to work as an intern in various high profile firms. During the university day, she was an intern on the D.C. Superior Court in summer. In 1995 and 1996 she interned for the United States Department of Justice and the White House Counsel consecutively. Lisa was also summer associate for the law firm Hogan and Hartson, LLP. In 1997, she received a Juris Doctor and joined New York Bar in 1998. For Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election, Lisa was nominated to assist with vetting efforts for the election.

 For the Honorable Jane Richards Roth, Lisa Monaco worked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, from 1997 to 1998. From 1998 to 2001, she was the counsel to then-Attorney General Janet Reno. She was promoted as Associate Deputy Attorney General by United States Deputy Attorney General David W. Ogden in 2009. Soon after that, she was assigned to Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General. She was the Assistant Attorney General for National Security; leading the Justice Department appointed by Barack Obama in 2011. During her tenure, she worked against cyber threats and other important issues.

Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Adviser

 On March 8, 2013, succeeding John Brennan, Lisa Monaco became the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, the chief counterterrorism adviser to the President. She was a statutory member of the United States Homeland Security Council. Lisa was nominated by President Obama on January 25, 2013. During her tenure, she worked on the management of the Ebola virus in the United States. She worked on various policies and had the day-to-day responsibilities of everything in the White House.

Post-Obama Administration 

From the 2020 election for Biden-Administration, she was nominated as a candidate for Director of National Intelligence.
