Masai Ujiri Early Life And Education

Masai’s parents were very young and still a student when he was conceived. He was born on July 7, 1970, in Bournemouth, England. They moved to Nigeria when Masai turned two. Both his parents shared a medical background. His mother, a Kenyan doctor and father, an Isko hospital administrator and nursing educator. 

From his childhood days, he had a great interest in football. He played a lot of football as a youth in the outdoors of Nigeria. He convinced his parents to allow him to pursue basketball as his career. His parents were educated enough to support their child.

 He left Nigeria to play for Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. He joined Bismarck State College where he played basketball for 2 years. Following that, he attended Montana State University Billings. But he stayed there for one semester. Masai left studies to become a good player. 

Masai Ujiri Career

Ujiri spent most of the time, almost 6 years playing basketball in Europe. Soon after a year, he played in England. Following that, he was in a second-division team in Belgium and Germany. His final match as a player was in Denmark. Later, in 2002 he started coaching youth in Nigeria.

He was introduced to college coaches by David Thorpe. His coaching impressed Gary Brokaw who introduced him with Doc Rivers and GM John Gabriel. He became an unpaid scout. After a while, it was the Nuggets general manager, KikiVandeweghe who assigned him as an international scout with salary.

He worked as an international scout for 4 years. Following that, he was offered the post of Director of Global Scouting by Bryan Colangelo of the Toronto Raptors. In 2008, he was promoted as a general assistant manager. In 2013, to become an executive vice president and general manager, he signed a $15 million, 5-year deal.

Masai is a happily married man. He tied the knot with his rumoured girlfriend, Ramatu Ujiri. His wife is a fashion model and worked with OuterSkinz Image Group. In the 2019 finals of the NBA, he was accused by a deputy officer for hitting him. In that game when the Raptors won the NBA finals, Ujiri tried to go to the basketball floor. According to deputy officer Alan Strickland he asked for credentials to Masai before entering. Masai could not show credentials so instead hit the deputy officer on his face. The allegations are yet to be proved.
