Ludmya Bourdeau, most commonly known as Mia Love is an American politician who served as the US Representative for Utah’s 4th congressional district from 2015 to 2019. She was the first black person elected to Congress from Utah. Additionally, she was the first black woman elected as a Republican.

Mia Love Family, Early Life
Mia Love was born in New York City, Brooklyn. She was born to Haitian parents Jean Maxine Bourdeau and Mary Bourdeau. Her parents emigrated from Haiti in 1973. They later traveled to the United States on a tourist visa. Her father worked as a manager in a paint company manager and her mother worked as a nurse. Mia has two siblings. She was five years old, her family moved from Brooklyn to Norwalk, Connecticut.

Saratoga Politics
Mia Love got involved in community politics after settling in Utah. She managed to conduct several civic campaigns. In Saratoga Springs she was nominated as the community spokesperson.
Mia Love won the election on the Saratoga Springs City Council in 2003. She took office in January 2004 as the first Haitian American elected in Utah. In 2010, she ran for the mayor of Saratoga City. She won the election defeating Jeff Francom. She served as the mayor of Saratoga Springs from 2010 to 2014.
Congress
Mia Love ran in Utah’s 4th Congressional district in 2012. She won the Republican primary election on April 21, 2012, with more than 70 percent of the vote. Eventually, she lost the election to Jim Matheson, a Democratic candidate.
In 2013, Love announced that she would run for the 2014 election. She won the Republican election on April 26, 2014, with 78 percent of the vote. She won the general election by more than 7,000 votes. She became the first Republican black female to be elected to Congress.
Mia Love ran for re-election in 2016 and won the general election with 54% of the vote. She again ran for the Congressional election in 2018. But lost the election to McAdams, a Democrat.

Mia Love has strongly supported an anti-abortion campaign. She has also supported same-sex marriages. She has supported the repealing of the Affordable Healthcare Act, which is known as Obamacare. She supported the rights of immigrant parents living in the US. to reunite with their children. She has also agreed on tightening U.S. borders to bar illegal immigrants.

After Congress, Mia Love became a contributor at CNN. She became a political commentator at CNN in January 2019. She also served at the United States Studies Center at the University of Sydney, as a senior fellow. In 2020, Love was appointed as a fellow of the Institute of Politics and public service at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.
