Netflix originals coming to Netflix in May 2021

It’s time for a look at the Netflix Originals set to hit the service globally (unless specified otherwise) during May 2021. It’s going to be a busy month with blockbuster movies and the start of Netflix’s huge superhero universe.

This is an ongoing preview, so we’ll be updating it when we’ll send it one more update with the official announcement of the upcoming movies and series.

Netflix Originals in English coming in May of 2021

Jupiter’s Legacy

The movie will be released on Netflix on 7th May.

Netflix will release its first title under the Millarworld license, which is bought in 2017. Jupiter’s Legacy is an epic superhero drama that navigates the complex complexities of loyalty, family and wealth. It is based on the graphic novels by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely.

In our big preview for the first season, Netflix has a lot more on Jupiter’s Legacy, including all of the cast members and who they’ll be portraying, the production schedule, episode titles, and more! The movie casts Josh Duhamei, Ben Daniels, Lesile Bibb. 

The Upshaws

Netflix will release the series on 12th May.

This latest sitcom stars Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes as members of a working-class family in Indianapolis. In this comedy series,  a working-class Black family in Indiana strives for a better life and a happy home while juggling everyday struggles.

Selena: The Series 

The series will be available on Netflix on 14th May.

In mid-May, Netflix will wrap up its biopic series on Selena Quintanilla, the world-famous singer. Selena, the Iconic Mexican- American performer rises to fame as she and her family make sacrifices to attain their lifelong dreams. While the series has received some criticism, with similarities to previous biopics, it still did well when the first part was released in early December 2020.

The Woman in the Window

The movie will be available on Netflix on 14th May.

Amy Adams stars in this film, which was set to be released in theaters by Fox in May 2020 but was instead given to Netflix for a summer release. The story revolves around a woman who lives alone in New York City and experiences some troubling abuse. The film stars Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie and Brian Tyree Henry.

Special (Season 2)

The movie will be released on Netflix on 20th May.

Special movie will return for a second and final season. The disability-focused LGBTQ comedy was well-received, and it will be renewed for an additional eight episodes. In the series, a young gay with cerebral palsy breaks free from his confining lifestyles in hopes of finally going after the life he desires. The series stars Ryan O’ Connell, Jessica Hecht, Punam Patel, Maria Mandelle. 

Army of the Dead

The movie will be available on Netflix on 21st May.

With the release of the Snyder cut of Justice League on HBO Max and the launch of Army of the Dead on Netflix in late May to kick off Netflix’s summer blockbuster season, Zack Snyder is having a great year in 2021.

The zombie heist film follows a group of mercenaries who intend to carry out a heist in Las Vegas during the zombie apocalypse. The film’s budget is said to be between 70 and 90 million dollars. The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, and Matthias Schweighöfer.

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (Season 3)

Netflix will release the movie on May 21st.

The movie is the next installment in the animated series based on Universal’s Jurassic Park/World franchise.

Lucifer (Season 5B)

The series will be released on Netflix on May 28th.

After the first half of Season 5 was out, we finally got our date with the demon, who will be back a year later. The next batch of episodes was meant to be the final ones, but the show was unexpectedly renewed for a sixth season.  The series starred Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garica. 

The Kominsky Method (Season 3)

The series will be released on Netflix on May 28th. The Kominsky Method, Chuck Lorre’s hidden gem series, will air for the final time in late May 2021, with Michael Douglas reprising his role, but Alan Arkin will be absent. In the series, Sandy Kominsky and best friend Norman Newlander keep each other laughing by navigating the ups and downs of getting older. 

Netflix Originals in Languages Other Than English Arriving in May of 2021


Language: French

Netflix will release the movie on 12th May.

Are you on the lookout for your next science fiction import? Oxygen suits the bill, with a lot of involvement from the United States.

What you can expect from the new feature is as follows:

“Inside a cryogenic chamber, a woman with extreme memory loss wakes up. The key to her survival, trapped inside and rapidly losing oxygen, is knowing who she is.”


Language: Dutch

The movie will be available on Netflix on 14th May.

A film adaptation of the Belgian series Undercover, which aired for two seasons in 2019 and 2020. Ferry Bouman returns to his hometown on a revenge mission before he built a drug empire. There, he  finds his loyalty tested- and a love that alters his life. The cast of this movie are Frank Lammers, Elise Schaap, Huub Stapel. 

Who killed Sara?

Language: Spanish

Netflix will release the film on 19th May.

Since its release in March 2021, this Mexican-based series has dominated the top ten lists, and it will return for a second season only a few months later in mid-May.

Here’s what you can expect if you haven’t already seen the show:

Alex Guzmán’s quest to discover the truth about his sister Sara’s death will take him to the Lazcano family’s darkest secrets.

The Divine Ponytail

Language: Italian

Netflix will release the film on 26th May.

This biopic on legendary soccer player Roberto Baggio is part of a five-picture deal with Mediaset and will chronicle the athlete’s life on and off the pitch.


Language: Japanese

Netflix will release the film on 27th May.

This new anime series, directed by Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist) and concept designed by Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop), has been in the works for a long time and has been long teased.

EDEN is set 1000s of years in the future, where only robots remain, but all of a sudden their world is suddenly disrupted when a young human girl enters the city.
