Sunny Hostin Career

Sunny endured the stresses of poverty and police brutality as a child. As the daughter of biracial parents, she witnessed firsthand the insidious workings of structural racism. She started her legal career as an appellate law clerk after graduating from Notre Dame Law School, then went on to work as a trial attorney for the Justice Department and a federal prosecutor.

She became a federal prosecutor specializing in child sex crimes after leaving the division. Hostin then entered Court TV and began her career as a news analyst. Soon after, she appeared on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor,” where she debated with Megyn Kelly and Bill O’Reilly regularly. CNN hired the American lawyer as a legal analyst for the network’s show “American Morning” in September 2007. In 2014, she became a regular guest contributor on ABC’s talk show “The View.” She joined ABC News as a Senior Legal Correspondent and Analyst two years later. Hostin also became a regular co-host for the twentieth season of “The View”.

Hostin campaigned for the successful passage of the New York State Child Victims Act in 2019. She worked as the board member for safe horizon making it easier for child sex assault victims to pursue justice as adults. Hostin, an indisputable voice in news and culture, continues to use her platform to campaign for and give voice to the marginalized. In May 2020, Hostin and a group of Black female activists penned an authoritative op-ed for The Washington Post. They urged presidential candidate Joe Biden to choose a Black female vice-presidential candidate, anticipating Kamala Harris’s selection. Hostin earned two Emmys for her work as a reporter for ABC’s “Good Morning America,” as well as one for her work as a correspondent for the ABC News Special “The President and the People.”

Last winter, Hostin presented and executive produced a six-episode documentary series called “Truth About Murder with Sunny Hostin.” The series delves into the backstories of some of the country’s most notorious homicides. And, it is based on elements of her own life.
