Tahar Rahim is an Algerian origin French actor. He is best known for his role as Malik El Djebena in Jacques Audiard’s award-winning French film A Prophet 2009.

Rahim landed a role in the hit Canal+ television series La Commune, written by Abdel Raouf Dafri, in mid-2006 after signing with an agent. He went through a grueling three months of auditioning after a two-line role in the 2008 horror film Inside, starring Béatrice Dalle.
He landed his breakout position after eight callbacks. Rahim also appeared in the controversial Chinese film Love and Bruises, directed by Lou Ye. The producer, who has been barred from making films by the Chinese government twice, most likely met Tahar at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where they both presented Spring Fever and A Prophet. The film Love and Bruises is based on Jie Liu Falin’s banned biography.
