Banks, who earned recognition as a supermodel, originally wanted to be a film industry writer or producer.

Initially, she attended John Burroughs Middle School. Later, she enrolled at Los Angeles’ Immaculate Heart High School and graduated in 1991. She faced body shame around the time she was 11 for being tall and skinny. She specifically completed a non-degree certificate program at Harvard Business School. In 2014, Banks established the Tyra Beauty cosmetics brand. A multi-level marketing system is used by Tyra Beauty to recruit sales distributors, which the company calls “beautytainers”  Banks launched her website for fashion and beauty called ‘typeF.com’ in March 2011, which she co-created with Demand Media. She launched an interactive cosmetic e-commerce site named”tyra.com” in the year 2015.
