 Daniel Cottam was born on October 24, 1977. He was raised in Houston, Texas. For his undergraduate degree, he left They exas and joined Brigham Young University. Later he joined medical school in Texas at the University of Texas. He did his residency in New York, Long Island at Nassau University Medical Center. During his residency, he got interested in bariatric surgery.

 Earlier in his career, Daniel Cottam did two eras fellowship at the Mark Ravitch ⁄ Leon C. Hirsch Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr Cottam performed the first gastric bypass of his life in India. Later on, he did several bariatric surgeries and groundbreaking research. Dr Cottam was one of the first surgeons in Los Angeles, Nevada to begin practising revisional endoscopic bariatric surgery. He was not only practising but teaching surgeons too. Dr Cottam started as an employee working in hospitals for 3 years but later opened a private practice in Salt Lake City. He currently works at Bariatric Medicine Institute.
